Welcome to Rockville is a music festival that takes place in Jacksonville Florida each year, it has a range of rock and metal bands that play. This year the highlights were: Soundgarden, A Perfect Circle, The Offspring, Mastodon, Coheed & Cambria, Def Leppard, Chevelle, Papa Roach, Seether, Three Days Grace, and a long list of other bands that were all amazing.
On day one I arrived around 2pm and after finding parking I made my way over to the River Stage (the only stage I had access to) and checked out Volumes, they were really good. After that I checked out Frank Carter & The Rattlesnakes and they really blew me away, they were one of the bands that I attempted to but was unable to schedule an interview with. I checked out The Pretty Reckless, again another amazing show. After taking a short break I went to shoot Pierce the Veil they did a great job. I had always wanted to see The Offspring and A Perfect Circle, and I was able to check both of them out, I was really far back for The Offspring show so I watched it from a far. A Perfect Circle (one of my favorite bands) played everything I wanted to hear and I think they made the fans really happy! The night ended with Soundgarden, a band I never thought I would see, I only got to catch the first couple of songs but from what I saw they put on a hell of a performance.
Day two of the festival was really really good, I went in exhausted from walking about six miles during day one. I arrived at the park at 12:30 and had a little trouble with security getting in (they didn't like my camera bag) but I got in after going through a different line. The first band I checked out was Motionless in White, I had never heard of them but I really enjoyed what I saw, I had to leave to take some photos of Atilla. After taking a break I made it over to see Gojira, then Three Days Grace. I stopped back by the river stage to get the final band I could cover, Amon Amarth, again another band I had not heard of but I really enjoyed their performance. I caught about half of the seether show before going over to see Papa Roach, I ended the night after checking out Chevelle and Def Leppard. By the time Def Leppard was playing I was completely exhausted so I was only able to catch the first couple of songs, they were another band that I thought I was never going to see.
I have to say this year I had only heard of a handful of the bands, so I went in with a pretty open mind and was pleasantly surprised with how good every band was. Between the music itself and the showmanship they all get an A+ in my book.
