Today, New Zealand artist Gin Wigmore premiered her official video for her latest single ‘Dirty Mercy,’ the first track and video from her highly anticipated forthcoming album due for release in 2017.

The video premiered today via Billboard Magazine and can be viewed here. “Dirty Mercy” is now available on all digital platforms.

Gin explains, “I made sure I came out swinging with this one. I had always wanted to write a song with this sort of energy. A little trashy, kinda pissed off, whilst still retaining my love for a solid melody. Dirty Mercy is a song that really represented where my head was at when I first began this venture into my next album.”

“Dirty Mercy” was written and recorded in LA and was co-written with Marc Orrell (Dropkick Murphys) and Steve Rusch (Blood To Bone, Metallica, Kendrick Lamar). As per her award winning third album "Blood to Bone", which featured the stunning singles “Written In The Water” and “New Rush”, Gin once again stepped into the role of co-producer of her new release working with Grammy nominated producer/engineer Rusch.

The accompanying video was directed by New Zealand actor and director David de Lautour (Westside) with Gin writing the treatment. This is David’s first ever music video after being at the helm of various other web-series, short films and sketches.

“Because this new album is a new direction and look for Gin she wanted to do something different for the video. She was keen for a narrative clip that was a juxtaposition to the Gin Wigmore sound we all know and love. We were all excited about doing something that had a cool positive message for young girls which would let them know they don't have to fit into any box or mold,” says David.

Shot on location in Los Angeles, the kiwi connection was still very strong with a New Zealand artist, director, producer as well as notable make-up artist Amber Dreadon involved. Amber took on the intricate task of reproducing Gin's tattoos on female actor Addyson, stenciling and hand painting to get the finished result.

The release of "Dirty Mercy" follows Gin’s surprise addition to former President Barack Obama’s summer playlist which was tweeted out in August by the White House. The eclectic playlist included Gin’s 2011 track ‘Man Like That’ along with an array of artists such as Jay Z, Prince, Courtney Barnett and Chance The Rapper.

The release of Gin Wigmore’s third album "Blood To Bone", was met with praise around the world including a nomination for Best Live Act at the 2015 MTV EMA’s and the award for Best Female Artist at the 2015 NZ Music Awards.

In 2013, she released "Gravel & Wine", which spawned hit singles "Man Like That," "Black Sheep" and "If Only" and in 2009 the release of her debut album "Holy Smoke". Both albums reached #1 and multi-platinum status back home in New Zealand.
